Delete Your Account

1. Deleting Your Account In-App

You can delete your Instructor Go account at any time from within the app. The exact path depends on your role:

  • Learners: open the app, go to Profile → Account settings → Delete account.
  • Instructors: open the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account.
  • Driving schools: open the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account. You will be asked to cancel your school subscription and deactivate any remaining drivers first.

You will be asked to confirm before the deletion runs. Deletion is immediate — you cannot sign back into the deleted account.

2. What Happens When You Delete

When you confirm deletion, the platform automatically:

  • Cancels any active subscription (instructor or school subscription) at the end of the current billing period via Stripe.
  • Removes your personal information from your user profile: full name, email, phone number, date of birth, profile photo, provisional licence image, home postcode, saved location, and Stripe customer identifier.
  • Disables push notifications and turns off your authentication credentials so the account cannot be signed back into.
  • Marks the account as closed so it no longer appears in search, matching, or admin tools.

3. What We Retain

A small amount of historical data is kept after deletion. This is required to protect the rights of the other side of every booking you took part in, and to meet UK accounting and tax-compliance obligations:

  • Bookings, reviews, and messages associated with your account are retained in anonymised form (linked to an internal ID only — your name, contact details, and identifying data are already removed). This lets the other learner or instructor continue to see their own record of the lessons that took place.
  • Wallet and payment ledger entries and invoice records are retained for 7 years for UK tax and accounting compliance (HMRC requirement).
  • Stripe payment records remain subject to Stripe's own retention policy, which is controlled by Stripe and required for card-scheme and anti-fraud compliance. See stripe.com/privacy.

Retained records are no longer linked to your personal identity in our systems.

4. Before You Can Delete

To protect other users mid-transaction, a small number of actions must be resolved before deletion will complete. The app will tell you if any of these apply:

  • You have an active booking (pending, confirmed, in progress, or awaiting balance payment). Cancel or complete the booking first.
  • (Instructors) You have a positive wallet balance. Withdraw your balance to your connected bank account first.
  • (Schools) Your school subscription is still active, or you still have active drivers. Cancel the subscription and deactivate drivers from the school settings page first.

5. Deleting Without App Access

If you cannot access the app — for example, if you have lost the device the account is installed on — you can request deletion by email. Send a message from the email address on the account to privacy@instructorgo.co.uk with the subject line "Delete my account". We will verify the request and complete the deletion within 30 days, in line with our obligations under the UK GDPR.
